Cuisines beyond Bordeaux

We're taking you with us on an exotic adventure. Bordeaux is amazingly cosmopolitan, thanks in large part to its history as a vibrant port. History doesn't stand still,  Bordeaux continues to welcome people from all over the world. And some of them stay.  Bordeaux wine is also welcoming to international cuisine, it's amazingly versatile and pairs with all styles of dishes.

Lebanese Cuisine in the heart of Bordeaux

Beautiful Château Biac sits high on the slopes above the Garonne River in Langoiran at the centre of 15 hectares of vines that run down the steep limestone slopes towards the the river meandering at its feet.

It’s easy to see how Lebanese couple Youmna and Tony Asseily fell in love with the chateau that has now become their home and their ‘semi-retirement’ project and now a family affair with two of their children joining the team.  .

They used to share their lives between Lebanon, where Tony worked in banking, and London where Youmna moved to bring up bring up their children in safety  during the 1975-1991 war. The Bordeaux countryside was a haven of peace for them, where they discovered the cottages of the château. .

Lebanese Hospitality

They bought the property in 2006. As outsiders they took a similar approach to Sally at Château George 7, surrounding themselves with local experts to guide them on their wine journey.  Having been told by some of Bordeaux’s finest experts about the unique potential of the Biac terroir,  they invested in the vines, working with agronomist Gilles Rey, Christine Sourdes for their sweet white Cadillac and dry white and iconic wine maker Patrick Leon, formerly technical director of Mouton Rothschild , who also owned Château Les trois Croix, Sally’s neighbour in Fronsac!

Youmna brings with her the warmth of Lebanese hospitality, she’s an amazing hostess, spoiling her guests with her Lebanese cuisine that she matches perfectly with the red Côte de Bordeaux, dry and sweet white Cadillac wines of the property.

Her lunches and dinners are legendary. The terrace in front of the chateau probably has one of the best views of the region across the valley of the Garonne. She invited us into her kitchen to share some of her favourite dishes that pair beautifully with her wines. So dive into artichoke hearts with fava beans, fried eggplant salad, the lentil-based dish called Moudardara  or milk pudding Lebanese style called Mouhalabiyeh. All are simply delicious - we can give you our word!
